Melvin Dacres Fatherhood Story
Everyone on this planet, whether they know it or not, was created for a purpose. Once you find
out your purpose, and start walking in it, life becomes more meaningful and fulfilling. For me,
my life’s purpose started when I listened to that soft still voice we often don’t take the time to
hear. This is my fatherhood story.
Years ago, as was my custom, I took my kids to school. After saying my goodbyes, I headed to
work. As I was driving, I listening to the Family Life Today radio program for some uplifting
stories and powerful messages. On this particular problem, a lady was talking about her fears
and concerns of what her kids were learning at school. She met another mother who had the
same concerns as she had. As a result of this conversation, they started to meet regularly to
discuss and pray about the issues that were on their hearts. After a while, other mothers
started to hear about what these two ladies were doing, and wanted to join the sessions. What
started to be a discussion between two concerned mothers became a full fledged ministry for
several mothers!
As I was listening to this story, I was thinking to myself how powerful it would be if a man would
start something like that for fathers. Instantly, I heard a soft still voice say to me clearly, “Why
not you?”. This was the voice of the Lord, the one who loves fathers. From that point on, I have
been determined to craft a ministry that will help fathers thrive and strive spiritually. Hence Lean
on the Father was born out of a desire to please my Heavenly Father, and help my fellow
earthly fathers.
Lean on the Father provides a platform for dads to get together, discuss, and learn from one
another in a friendly and non judgemental setting. It also helps to build and strengthen dads
spiritually so they will be able to lead their families in the right way. If I can help and encourage
at least one father per session to be his very best, I know I am doing what God has called me to
do.
When a man starts to understand his role and purpose as a father, and lives it out, the family
has a great chance to win. Not only will it helps his family, but it will help others outside the
family as well. As long as I live, I will continue to live out my life’s purpose of helping men being
the best fathers possible. By doing so, it helps me in my journey as a father as well. I pray that
more men will be open to receive what God has in store for them so that they can be used by
Him to be difference makers. Society desperately needs it!
